John Banner

Biyografi

John Banner — Stanislau, Galicia, Austria-Hungary [now Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine] doğumlu, 1910-01-28. Oyunculuk alanında tanınır. Asıl adı Johann Banner olan John Banner, Avusturya-Macaristan İmparatorluğu döneminde dünyaya gelmiş Avusturya kökenli Amerikalı bir oyuncuydu ve 1,85 metre boyundaydı; en çok Hogan's Heroes (1965-1971) adlı sevilen komedi dizisinde canlandırdığı sakar Alman çavuş Hans Schultz karakteriyle tanındı. Ünlü Reinhardt Seminer'inde oyunculuk eğitimi alan Banner, kariyerine Viyana sahnelerinde başladı. 1938'de Nazilerin yükselişiyle birlikte Yahudi kökenli olan Banner, Avusturya'yı terk ederek Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'ne sığındı. Amerika'da iş bulmakta zorlanan sanatçı, geçimini sağlamak için çeşitli işlerde çalışırken oyunculuk hayalinden vazgeçmedi ve zamanla Hollywood filmlerinde, genellikle klişe Alman karakterlerini canlandırdığı küçük rollerde yer almaya başladı. 1965'te CBS'in yayınladığı, İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nda bir Alman esir kampında geçen ve Albay Robert Hogan (Bob Crane) liderliğindeki Amerikalı subayların maceralarını konu alan Hogan's Heroes dizisinde Çavuş Schultz rol
