Jean Arthur — Plattsburgh, New York, USA doğumlu, 1900-10-17. Oyunculuk alanında tanınır. Asıl adı Gladys Georgianna Greene olan Jean Arthur, Hollywood'un Altın Çağı'nın en özgün oyunculuk kişiliklerinden biri olarak anılan Amerikalı bir aktristir. Keskin zekâsı, anlamlı ses tonu ve sade cazibesiyle tanınan Arthur, döneminin en sevilen komedi oyuncularından biri hâline gelmiş, özellikle "screwball" komedi türünde iz bırakmıştır. Film tarihçisi James Harvey'e göre "hiç kimse screwball komediyle Jean Arthur kadar özdeşleşmemiştir" ve oyunculuğu bu türün mirasında merkezi bir yer tutmaktadır. 1930'ların ortasında yükselişe geçen Arthur, en çok yönetmen Frank Capra ile yaptığı işbirlikleriyle tanınmış; Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), You Can't Take It with You (1938) ve Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) filmlerinde başrol oynayarak
