Released in 2015, this animated production takes the school-life-focused story of Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, and their friends—familiar to us from the series' previous films—a step further. The film revolves around the "Friendship Games," an annual sports and academic competition held between Canterlot High and its rival school, Crystal Prep Academy.

The production offers a fun competitive atmosphere while continuing to convey the series' core philosophy of magic and friendship to young viewers. Visually, the film features a colorful and energetic animation style, and it also stands out for its musical sequences. The film was produced through a collaboration between Hasbro Studios and DHX Media, and it preserves the series' characteristic pastel color palette and candy-like visual design. At the same time, it attempts to offer a deeper narrative in terms of character development compared to previous films.

Plot

Canterlot High is set to host the annual Friendship Games and will face off against rival school Crystal Prep Academy in this prestigious event. As Twilight Sparkle and her friends prepare to represent their school, they meet the other Twilight Sparkle (the human version from this universe), a mysterious and talented student from Crystal Prep.

This new character, despite possessing extraordinary intelligence and abilities, is socially withdrawn. As the tension of the competition rises, an unknown magical force begins to emerge, threatening both the safety of the schools and the bonds of friendship between the characters. While Sunset Shimmer and her friends try to figure out the source of this mysterious energy, they also have to focus on winning the competition.

As the film progresses, it emphasizes the importance of genuine friendship and understanding beyond competition. Tensions between characters, misunderstandings, and ultimately themes of cooperation form the backbone of the story.
