Orson Welles — Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA doğumlu, 1915-05-06. Yönetmenlik alanında tanınır. George Orson Welles, Amerikalı bir film yönetmeni, aktör, tiyatro yönetmeni, senarist ve yapımcı olarak sinema, tiyatro, televizyon ve radyoda geniş bir yelpazede eserler vermiştir. Yenilikçi dramatik prodüksiyonları ve kendine özgü sesiyle tanınan Welles, yirminci yüzyılın en yetenekli dramatik sanatçılarından biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Özellikle Hollywood ile olan tartışmalı ilişkisine rağmen, erken dönem çalışmalarıyla önemli bir etki yaratmıştır. Yönetmenlik tarzı, katmanlı ve doğrusal olmayan anlatım biçimleri, chiaroscuro gibi yenilikçi aydınlatma teknikleri, benzersiz kamera açılarının yanı sıra radyo ile ödünç alınan ses teknikleri, derin odak çekimleri ve uzun çekimlerle dikkat çekmektedir. Welles, genç yaşta sahneye uyarladığı Macbeth ve The Cradle Will Rock gibi yüksek profilli tiyatro prodüksiyonlarıyla tanınmış, 1938'de H. G. Wells'in The War of the Worlds adlı romanının radyo uyarlamasını yöneterek ulusal ve uluslararası üne kavuşmuştur. Bu yayın, dinleyiciler arasında panik yaratarak Welles’i anında tanınan bir figür haline getirmiştir. 1941'deki ilk filmi Citizen Kane, birçok kişi tarafından yapılmış en iyi film olarak değerlendirilmektedir.
