Harry Carey — The Bronx, New York City, New York, USA doğumlu, 1878-01-16. Oyunculuk alanında tanınır. Henry DeWitt Carey II, Amerikan sinemasının sessiz döneminin en önemli yıldızlarından biri olarak bilinir ve genellikle Batı kahramanı rollerinde yer almıştır. En tanınmış performanslarından biri, 1939 yapımı Mr. Smith Goes to Washington filmindeki Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Senatosu başkanı rolüdür; bu performansıyla En İyi Yardımcı Erkek Oyuncu dalında Akademi Ödülü'ne aday gösterilmiştir. New York'ta doğan Carey, gençliğinde Hamilton Askeri Akademisi'ni bitirmiş ve New York Üniversitesi'ne devam etmiştir. Bir tekne kazası sonrası geçirdiği zatürre döneminde bir oyun yazmış ve bu oyunla üç yıl boyunca ülkeyi dolaşarak önemli bir gelir elde etmiştir. 1911'de, arkadaşı Henry B. Walthall aracılığıyla ünlü yönetmen D.W. Griffith ile tanışmış ve onunla birçok film çekmiştir. İki kez evlenen Carey, ikinci eşi Olive Fuller Golden ile tanışarak John Ford ile olan dostluğunu geliştirmiştir. Kariyerinin ilerleyen dönemlerinde karakter rolleri üstlenmiş ve 1936'da Ford ile tekrar çalışmıştır. 1948'de oğlu Harry Carey Jr. ile birlikte Red River filminde de yer almıştır. 1947'de ise uzun süren bir hastalık sonucu hayatını kaybetmiştir.
